# Beleriand physical-volume materials

These files are presentation materials for the Beleriand map volume. They are
self-hosted so the static atlas does not depend on a third-party service at
runtime. The mahogany desk shared by the volumes is recorded in the
[shared study-material register](../../../shared/assets/materials/CREDITS.md).

## Star-and-wave engraving

The frame ornament is an original in-project SVG drawing. Its repeated ripple
vocabulary was informed by the public-domain [Undulating Wave Motif](https://www.si.edu/object/undulating-wave-motif%3Achndm_1976-103-73)
held by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. The museum record marks the
historic source as CC0. The atlas drawing was simplified and combined with its
existing eight-pointed star rather than reproducing the source image.

## Layered book binding (2026-09-05)

The cover reuses the above cloth at a 600px repeat with blue-gray shading and
faded indigo edges. The leather spine reuses the CC0 Poly Haven Brown Leather
derivative documented in the [Middle-earth material register](../../../middle_earth/assets/materials/CREDITS.md),
blended toward dark slate blue in CSS. Both textures are self-hosted.

The silver seal and faint cool-ivory endpaper pattern reuse the original
`../beleriand-frontispiece-ornament.svg` star-and-wave drawing. Pressed tooling,
spine bands, board thickness, page edges, lighting, and the hinged CSS animation
are original project work. No new third-party artwork or runtime dependency
is introduced by this treatment.
